What is the difference between gas turbine and jet engine?
If a gas turbinne is a type of turbine then does that make a jet engine? A Jet Engine is referred to as a Gas Turbine, and a Gas Turbine is referred to as a Turbine Engine, does that make a Jet Engine a Turbine engine? Im doing a project for engineering about heat engines and they have them both listed ass different but I fail to see the difference in them after internet research.
All jet engines - turbojet and turbofan engines - are gas turbines. These engines supply thrust directly by accelerating air and/or exhaust gases rearward.
Not all gas turbines are jets - there are also turbo-shaft engines, where the turbine supplies power via a mechanical connection. These are used in turboprop aircraft, helicopters, ships, armored vehicles and even for electrical power generation
