how can i brush my child's teeth?
I really need help with this one.... she is 1 1/2, and HATES, I mean, HATES getting her teeth brushed... she screams and cries... and sometimes i literally have to hold her down just to get them brushed.... I feel awful, but thinking of what might happen to her teeth if they arent brushed makes me feel worse...
She hates it so much and gets SO SO SO upset to tears that I just have to find another solution.... it almost seems as if she thinks she is being punished.... and them of course with her flaring her head around and crying and having a tantrum, i have to be firm with her, and i just dont want brushing teeth to be such a bad experience..... for the both of us. Today she got so mad at me for brushing her teeth that she bit me when i picked her up to try to consol her from crying..... then I put her in time out...
It just makes me feel awful!!!! What can i do?? I use orajel training toothpaste, and i'm pretty sure that the taste of it has nothing to do with it... HELP!
Hello, my son is 1 1/2 as well, and he loves to brush his teeth. They way I got him to like it was I made it into something he thought made him a big boy. I move his step- stool to the sink and let him stand on it, with me beside him. I give him is on tooth brush which has spong bob on it and I put training toothpaste on it (safe to swallow) and leave the water running so he can put his toothbrush in the running water.. He loves doing that, while he is doing this I brush my teeth with him teaching him to spit the paste into the sink. After I get done I have another kids tooth brush that I use on him with real toothpaste. The tooth paste has spongbob on the outside and I tell him okay let mommy brush your teeth now. He allows me to and I always try to make him spit as much as I can in the sink so he doesn't swallow to much toothpaste. Then he has a little cup I let him put water in, to rinse his mouth out. Then I tell him what a great job he done and how pretty his teeth are and tell him we are all done.. So far this works like a jewel. I hope this helps you, and I am glad you have stuck to brushing her teeth. I take my son to a pedi-denist every 6 months. I think if you start a child out young with good dental hyigene it will only be better for the future.. Good luck!
