Can you imagine listening to or seeing a faucet drip for hours on end? Nerves are about ready to blow if somebody doesn't come to our rescue soon. Teachers are well known as prodders and pushers to get students to learn a particular subject in school. Not often appreciated when we'd rather talk in class or entertain the guys or gals with our humor and awesome personality.
Most of the well known super athletes have a coach for their entire career. Tiger Woods is a prime example of a super athlete who still needs fine tuning, tweaking his swing or approach to the golf ball. Word is that he still has a coach. If Tiger needs a coach then the rest of us may need two or three coaches to get us on track and to keep us there for our own well-being.
Mom and Dad are the usual coaches in the beginning. Some of us have been both coached as a child then became a coach to our own children. Much of our success as children and as adults comes from our attitude and how we receive and accept guidance from others. We all come with a certain amount of baggage and challenge to be dealt with by our coaches, friends and neighbors.
Rejection by our peers, coaches, teachers or even the pink slip from book publishers is never cause for good feelings or thoughts of love and care. None of us like rejection except in cases where we'd rather miss the opportunity offered. Searching for a career, a job, a girlfriend or a boyfriend is usually filled with hope of acceptance. To be the chosen one is our goal.
Why is there a boss? Why a manager? Usually, most enterprises have a leader responsible for the end results to be accomplished for profit. Without profit the business will die. Government bailouts are not a long-term solution for a free enterprise system like America.
Without careful management and use of government funds for a short-term infusion to the US economy, our cure will be worse than the original injury. Many fingers are pointing at the culprits, the greedy, the selfish and the stupidity of our leadership but few, if any, are taking responsibility for the challenges we face in the workplace today. Just keep the faith and do whatever each of us can do for the good of others. The TIDE always returns is good to remember during these difficult times in America.
