whats a better piercing dental wise? regular labret or a vertical labret? please provide sources i need facts!?
my mom and i are having a debate about it and she wont budge so i thought if i provide her with real facts shell believe me since ive been doing my research on both piercings.
A vertical labret is the better piercing in this respect. Why? Because a vertical labret piercing does not enter the mouth itself. The vertical labret piercing runs through the tissue of the lip from the top and out the bottom edge of the lip. This is a plain and simple fact since it is the factor that differentiates a vertical labret from any other lip piercing.
The trouble with vertical labret piercings is that they are a sort of surface piercing and as such it is possible for them to reject or migrate. So you need to take VERY careful care not to play with these piercings, touch them uneccesarily, or chew on them. They will also need to be carefully fitted with jewelry when they are pierced and re-fitted once they are healed. Vertical labret piercings are not a "one size fits all" piercing and need attention to heal well and stay happy.
A properly placed and fitted regular labret piercing shouldn't impact your teeth or gums. Your piercer should position your jewelry to avoid contact with teeth and gums to protect them. You'll still need to wear proper jewelry and to avoid destructive habits like rubbing the jewelry on your teeth or chewing on it. Oral piercings are not toys, and they need to be left alone or they will damage your teeth.
Either piercing is safe when it is properly done, worn, fitted and cared for, but the vertical labret is safer for your teeth since it doesn't enter the mouth.
