question about the teeth deep cleaning.?
i need to have the deep cleaning done. does anyone know what is the diffrence between (perio root planing) and (perio scaling) are these 2 diffrent treatments? it cost $90 per quadrant for this treatment.
I worked for a Periodontist for 10 years...
Scaling and root plaining are two terms for the technique used in the procedure... for a normal persons knowledge its the same thing.
All they will do is numb you per quadrant and just give you a deeper cleaning than usual. Your numb because without novacaine they can only clean 1-3mm under the gum line, and with this procedure they can clean 1-6mm under the gum line. There will not be any incisions or drilling or anything like that... its just a concentrated clearning in that area. Most likely you need it because of plaque or calcium buildup under the gum line... too deep for you to clean yourself with brushing or flossing. This procedure is the best protection against peiodontal disease - which is when the buildup under your gums becomes so bad that it can cause bone loss.
