Help! Painful tooth.?
I had a crown procedure done recently. It began hurting soon after. When I went to have the permanent crown placed, I was all over the chair. Now they say I need a root canal. Well, I went for a "treatment" of the nerve and pulp today. They gave me the maximum amount of novacain, and still couldn't deaden it. They call it a "hot" tooth, and that I'm probably going to have to be put to sleep to have the work done or the tooth pulled. Is there anything else I should do or expect?! Please help.
You should not need to be sedated to treat this tooth. There are different methods of attaining appropriate anesthesia and it sounds like the dentist may need to try another method or refer you to an endodontist. I would consider getting another opinion. If the tooth is infected a antibiotic may need to be prescribed prior to treating the tooth. Hope that helps!
