Can I use my clear orthodontic retainer for bleaching purposes?
I have a clear orthodontic retairner that I have to wear to keep my teeth in place. I was wondering that instead of paying money to get a custom made mouth tray to use for whitening, if I could just use my retainer. The ones that are pictured for the bleaching purposes look almost exactlly the same as the one I have now. It would help if you are a orthodontist and know what you are talking about when you answer this question. Thanks in advance
The main difference between bleaching trays and ortho retainers is when they make bleaching trays, they normally have a little space made on the front of the teeth area for the bleach to go, whereas the retainers are flush on your teeth.
I am a dentist, and I have used clear retainers as bleaching trays. Just be careful not to put too much bleach in the trays, as they will overflow since they don't have as much space as bleaching trays.
