can putting rubber bands close the gap in my front teeth?

i can't have braces yet coz we don't have the money. i'm thinking of doing this rubber band thing when i'm at home, perhaps it could help close my gap. you think this is advisable?

Let me put it to you this way: I have NEVER seen at-home dental treatments work well, if at all. Not even Crest White Strips, which are made to whiten teeth.

If Crest White Strips don't work well, what makes you think that putting a rubber band around your teeth is going to work?

Orthodontic movement of teeth is a lot more complicated than just squeezing your front teeth together. Where on the tooth would you put the rubber band? Would it sit at the gumline? Would it remain stuck between the contacts of your teeth? How much force is it going to put on your teeth? WHICH tooth is going to be pulled more ('cause teeth don't move exactly the same amount...even with the same force).

You would be an absolute fool to try that rubber band nonsense.
