How do I stop grinding my teeth?

At my last dental checkup, my dentist told me I've started grinding my teeth. It's gotten bad enough that I'm wearing down the enamel on the surface of my teeth and I need enamel fillers for 2 teeth on my upper jaw. I've also been getting headaches from grinding my teeth. In addition to the fillers, I will also have to be fitted for a night guard.

Ever since my dentist told me this, I've been noticing the tightening of my jaw even while I'm awake. My jaw gets very tight. How can I stop this?
For everyone who's recommending the night guard, do you prefer the one fitted by the dentist or do you get yours online (like Amazon)?

I go through the same thing. I grind my teeth during sleep and even tighten my jaw while awake. All you can really do is when you notice your tightening your jaw just try to relax it., and wear your night guard while your sleeping.
