A dental hygienist is responsible for cleaning teeth, performing oral examination and checking for signs of oral disease one the neck head and oral areas. An extensive knowledge of the proper and ADA approved methods of cleaning calcareous deposits and stain removal within the margin of the gum and orofacial cavity using dental instrumentation. He will also perform both a visual and oral examination of the gum area, determining the presence of various diseases and signs of deterioration to prepare for the necessary palliative and prophylactic intervention for a patient.
As a dental hygienist you are required to have extensive knowledge in the manipulation, use and management of patient charts related to decay and disease conditions prevalent in the oral cavity of a patient for proper diagnosis and treatment as recommended by a licensed dental practitioner.
