Problems concerning class II restoration?

Hi i am a year 2 dental student and i am encountering problems concerning class II restoration. Hope you guys can help
A patient has class II caries on the distal surface of his 26. The caries is on the approximal surface only and the occlusal part or marginal ridge is intact. His 27 has been extracted. I plan to do a composite restoration by directly accessing and the carious part with a bur, remove the caries and restore it. However, i have to put the rubber dam on but i don't know which tooth to clamp on. I can't clamp on 26 cause i need to work on that tooth, and his 27 is extracted and his 28 is partially erupted. Would it be possible to anchor the dam without placing clamps on teeth, or shall i clamp the anterior teeth? Thanks a lot.

If you can place the RD clamp on the 28. This will be pretty tough, there might not be enough room, there might not be enough of 28 erupted to get a clamp on, even if you use a clamp with some subgingival prongs. No it is not possible to anchor the dam in the posterior without a clamp. And I don't understand why you would want to clamp anterior teeth?
You may be able to clamp the 26 using a distal extension RD clamp. That may provide you the room to prep the tooth the way you want to. (In private practice, I would consider cutting the tooth without the dam, then placing the dam for the restoration part. But in dental school they probably won't let you do that).
Lastly, you may just have to do a more classical DO restoration on the tooth.
