Which compact point and shoot camera have the largest CCD/CMOS sensor ?
Please don't list DSLR camera.
A camera with 1/1.8" CCD is better than one with 1/2.7" CCD ?
This information isn't always touted like megapixels so you might have to dig into the official websites of the camera makers.
Ok, things have changed a lot in the past 18 months, we have a new kind of camera that's compact, but uses a large image sensor like a dSLR, I'll get back to that later. I'll assume that you speak of your average price compact.
Here's what to look for, there are 3 sizes that are the largest of the small image sensors found in compacts. They will be listed as 1/1.6, 1/1.7 and 1/1.8. Avoid everything else if sensor size is important to you. Right off the top of my head, the Panasonic LX3 comes to mind. It's probably the most popular compact being used by dSLR owners that want a decent compact with manual controls. That's what you go for when you don't want to spend tons of money on a Canon G10 or 11 or Nikon P5000 or 6000. An older compact, that's better than most of the new ones is the Fuji F31fd http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf31fd/ it has 1/1.7 sensor and it's only 6MP so the pixels are big compared to other cameras. If you can find one used, grab it.
Your other option is a large image sensor compact like the new Sony NEX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zARQij5ZSLE http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&identifier=S_NEX#/nex3Section but those cameras cost what an entry level dSLR does. so it only make sense if you have dSLR money, and want something compact.
Other large sensor compacts like the Panasonic GF1 and Olympus PEN cost a few hundred more than the Sony NEX, but you should look at them if you have the funds.
