What angle of attack has the most thrust for rotor blades in air?
I understand that as the angle of attack increases the thrust increases accordingly, but at a certain point if the angle is too high, like if its close to 90 degrees, then the thrust becomes almost non-existent. So I would like to know where is the best angle of attack for rotor blades in air, for lift/thrust only, not control.
It all depends on the curvature of the blade. A flat blade will loose lift at right around 15 degrees. A blade designed for lift will loose lift at about 23 degrees. There are way too many variables to calculate lift without spending weeks calculating the blade angles structure, blade drag coefficients, blade vector, blade air speed at different nodes, structure flex.
